# 2. Week Eight Monday 1st June

Home Learning Plans

Chestnut Class

Week Beginning: 1 June

Dear Chestnut parents/carers and children,

Your core learning for the week is set out in this letter.

Read Chapters 26 and 27 of  Varjak Paw, which are provided for you.  There are also some questions to answer.  See if you can follow the pattern we have adopted of reading and re-reading before answering the questions.  There is a great turn of events in this part of the book…..and I really had to stop myself reading further!

Please also make sure you are carrying out additional reading each day.  You could use the grid below to explain what you are reading to an adult.  Challenge yourself to ask questions based on each area of the chart.  For example, you could ask a ‘why?’ question from the left side, or combine it with a ‘might’ question from the top section to create a ‘what should? ‘ question.

Oxford Owls  This website provides access to free reading material.  You will need to use the log on: chestnut101 and the password: pupil

You have 2 grammar activities relating to identifying paragraphs and using fronted adverbials in paragraphs.  They come with the answers which will help you check your work if you have any problems.

You have a spelling quiz on Purple Mash and a ‘look, say, cover, write’ sheet to practise with.

Maths:

We are now moving on to decimals!

I recommend the following clip as a really helpful introduction to understanding tenths and hundredths:

It is Australian, but the numbers are all the same!!  It works through very carefully with good visuals.

BBC Bitesize also provides a really good introduction:

Next, complete the worksheets

1.  recognising tenths and hundredths
2. tenths as decimals
3. tenths on a place value grid
4. decimals on a numberline
5. divide 1 digit by 10

Fluency:  Please continue to learn your times tables and use Purple Mash to test yourself.

Wider Curriculum -

You have a set of activities to complete, including a physical challenge which  is on a separate sheet.

I hope you are all well.

Take care,

Mrs Barter
