Autumn term: Reception Curriculum Information

Working with your child this term is Miss Evans (main class teacher), Miss Burkinshaw (TA/Cover on Friday mornings) and Miss Allee (TA).

The theme for Term 1 is ‘All About Me’ and the theme for Term 2 will be ‘Traditional Tales’.

Our ‘All About Me’ topic will look at our self-portraits, our body parts, our senses, who’s in our family healthy eating and where we live.

Our term 2 topic of ‘Traditional Tales’ will follow themes based on books such as the three little pigs and Little Red Riding Hood.

The topics will align with our drawing club lesson where we look at books based on these themes.

In addition, your child will be learning about the following:

• Maths- Counting songs/games, subitising, counting, cardinality and ordinality, composition, comparison, identify a set, sort by a type and creating sorting rules.
• Phonics- listening games, Level 1 phonics (listening, repeating, patterns, rhyming) Level 2 sounds (not all of level 2 will be completed by Christmas)
• RE- Harvest festival, the significance of God to Christians, who is God and what does he mean to us. Who is God? Looking after animals, why is the word God important to Christians? Why do Cristians perform nativity plays at Christmas?
• Understanding the world- all about me flower, who’s in my family, parts of our body, healthy eating, senses, oral hygiene, firework night
• Art and design- self-portraits, making the three little pig houses, colour mixing

Please support your child’s learning with:

• We expect all children in Reception to be reading with the support of an adult for at least 5 minutes, 2 times per week and recorded in their reading record for the book to be changed on Monday’s and Thursday’s. We kindly request books and reading records are brought in every day for if we read with them.
• Home learning: The key home learning activity is reading at home with your child, we will however also send home learning sheets based on our learning for the week, if this is brought back the children will be rewarded with dojo’s (class reward point system)

Just a few reminders:

PE kits- We ask you to send your child in wearing their PE kits (house coloured t-shirts and trousers/shorts with PE shoes/trainers- preferably no lases!) on Wednesday and Friday’s until Christmas. After Christmas we ask you to send in a labelled bag containing the PE kit for the children to change in at school.

Water Bottles- To help your child stay hydrated and be ready to learn, please make sure they bring in a labelled water bottle to school with them every day. We kindly ask that the bottles are filled with water only- rather that juices or squash.

Pencil Cases- There is no need for your child to bring in any additional stationary. If your child requires any additional resources for a specific learning task or activity, we will let you know in advance so it can be arranged.

Toys and Games- To help us avoid any unnecessary distractions from our learning and stay safe, we kindly request that toys and games from home are not brought into school.
