Term 1 Week 6

Please enter an introduction for your blog post here.

In Maths this week in Lilac Class, we will be continuing with our work on place value.  We will build on our knowledge of rounding further, by rounding numbers to a million.  After this, we will be learning about negative numbers and Roman Numerals.

In English, we are continuing with our work about ‘Journey’ by Aaron Becker.  Our writing task this week is to use our plans that we have written and to start writing our narratives of the story.  We decided as a class that there are six main events in the story and we will be writing a paragraph about each using ‘fronted adverbials’ to ‘hook’ the reader in.   We are now up to Chapter Six of ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’.  When answering our comprehension questions we are continuing to develop our reading skills – summarising, predicting, using inference and retrieving factual information using evidence from the text.

In RE this week, Father John will be coming to see visit us to talk about the questions we have been answering in our work so far and the key vocabulary we have been exploring.  This is a special opportunity for Lilac Class and Dr Charles to ask him questions and pick his brains!

In Topic, we are continuing to create our own designs based on themes and colours that can be found in the artwork of the Ancient Maya.  We will be decorating our designs with repeated circle and straight-lined patterns based on the work of the contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.  We will also be drawing and labelling a map of Mesoamerica during the period of the Ancient Mayan Civilisation.  We will be finding out the names of the main City States, where they can be located and key facts.  In Science, we are now going to start our work about the Moon.  Initially, we are going to learn about the different phases of the Moon, how they are formed, what they look like and what they are called.
