Term 6 Week 7

What we are doing in Lilac Class for the week beginning 17.7.23

What we are doing this week in Lilac Class for the week beginning 17.7.23

For Maths this week in Lilac Class, we are adding and subtracting decimals with different decimal places using the ‘0’ place holder to make aligning up the decimals clearer.  Lilac Class are also using place value charts to show the exchanging pictorially.

In English this week in Lilac Class, we are drafting and writing a best copy of a biography about Ernest Shackleton.  We will be learning about what biographical writing is and finding out about the different phases of Shackleton’s life.  Lilac Class will also be including at the end of the biography the discovery of the wreck of the Endurance on the 5th of March 2022.  The wreck is now under International Law and is a historic site.  This means that artefacts cannot be brought to the surface.

In our guided reading sessions Lilac Class will be reading books from our Reading Curriculum, for example, ‘Flotsam’ by David Wiesner and ‘Everest’ about Edmund Hilary by Alexandra Stewart and Joe Todd-Stanton. For RE in Lilac Class, we are learning about the Qur’an and why it is important to Muslims and making connections between what is written in the Qur’an and how we should live our lives.  For example, ‘Be kind to your parents especially when they are old’, ‘Always keep promises’ and ‘Be honest day by day’. For Time and Place in Lilac Class, we are finding out about different natural resources in India. We will be thinking about what natural resources are and why India was colonised by the British in 1858. For Science in Lilac Class, we are finishing off our learning about the work of the famous naturalists Jane Goodall and Sir David Attenborough and the contributions they have made to knowledge.  For Design and the Arts, we singing ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ with an instrumental accompaniment.
