Term 6 Week 6

Homework for Lilac Class for the week beginning 10.7.23

Written Homework to be complete by Tuesday 18th July 2023

Please learn the following words for a spelling test. This week we are learning words that convert nouns and adjectives using the suffix -ive

attractive  creative   addictive   assertive   abusive   cooperative   exhaustive   appreciative   offensive  expressive

This week I would like you to write a sentence containing each word to show that you understand the meaning.  Can you use commas, full stops and capital letters correctly?  Can you use some direct speech in your sentences?  Can you use a relative pronoun such as that, which, who, whom and where? Can you use an expanded noun phrase?  Can you use parenthesis – brackets, commas or dashes to show additional information?  Please refer to the ‘Monarchy’ Sheet that gives different strategies of how to learn spellings. This has been stuck in the front of your child’s Homework Book.

English Task: This week I would like you to find out what life was like for a sailor in the 18th century.  What did they eat?  What was their job?  What diseases did they get?  How were they punished?  What was ‘press-ganged’?  Were there any famous women sailors?  Online Tasks: For Purple Mash please read Chapter 5 and 6 of our new e-book called ‘Dark Water’ by Sarah Loader.  I have set a Classroom Secrets Kids activity this week entitled Reasoning about 3D Shapes Challenge.   Your logins for Classroom Secrets Kids and Purple Mash have been stuck in your Homework Book.
