Term 6 Week 2

What we are doing in Lilac Class for the week beginning 12.6.23

What we are doing this week in Lilac Class for the week beginning 12.6.23

For Maths this week in Lilac Class, we are measuring angles up to 180 degrees and learning to use a protractor.  Where on the line should we place the protractor and is the angle you want to draw acute or obtuse?  We will also be calculating angles on a straight line finding out strategies to work out the mussing angles?  Do we need to add, subtract or divide?  Our knowledge of how many degrees are in a quarter, half, three quarters and full turn will help us.

In English this week in Lilac Class, we are drafting our dual narrative based on our supplementary text ‘Ice Trap!  Shackleton’s Incredible Expedition’ by Meredith Hooper.  We are considering the question ‘What should Shackleton and his men do now that the ship is sinking?’  We will be drawing on our role play work and ‘Hot Seating’ talking when writing about  the view point of the men and then the perspective of Ernest Shackleton, their leader.

For our Guided Reading text, Shackleton’s Journey by William Grill this week, we are reading pages 43-48. Lilac Class are continuing to think about the effect of the illustrations on the meaning of the text and why they tell us so much about what is happening in the story.  We will be answering such questions as ‘Why do you think a double page picture is included?’ and What can you tell from this picture?’ For RE in Lilac Class, we are learning about the role of the Mosque in the Muslim community.  We will also be learning about the different features of the Mosque and what you would expect to find inside one.  For Time and Place in Lilac Class, we are learning how different types of mountains are formed: fold mountains, fault-block mountains, volcanic mountains, dome mountains and plateau mountains.  We will be then exploring a map of India to locate where mountains ranges are located and finding out what type of mountains they are.  For Science in Lilac Class, we are learning about complete and incomplete metamorphosis and will be comparing the life cycles of the butterfly and the dragon fly.  For Design and the Arts, we are writing a self-evaluation of our Seascapes.  We will be answering questions about the methods we used to create our seascapes, how we felt about the materials we worked with and what inspired us to create our designs.  We will also be exploring how we feel about our finished piece of work and what we lik about it and what we would like to improve.
