Term 5, Week 1 Home Learning

Homework for Lilac Class for the week beginning 17.4.23

Written Homework to be complete by Tuesday 25th April 2023

Please learn the following words for a spelling test. 10 words this week.  This week we are learning words that contain the letter string ‘ough’:

though    although    dough    doughnut    through    cough    trough    rough  tough   enough

This week I would like you to write a sentence containing each word to show that you understand the meaning.  Can you use commas, full stops and capital letters correctly?  Can you use some direct speech in your sentences including different words for ‘said’?  Can you use a relative pronoun such as that, which, who, whom and where? Can you use an expanded noun phrase?  Can you use parenthesis – brackets, commas or dashes to show additional information?  Please refer to the ‘Monarchy’ Sheet that gives different strategies of how to learn spellings. This has been stuck in the front of your child’s Homework Book.

English Task: This week I would like you to find out some information about any river in the world.  Where is it?  Where does it start and finish?  How long and wide is it?  Does it have an estuary or a delta when it meets the sea?  Online Tasks: For Purple Mash I have set you Chapter 1 of a new e-book ‘A Tiger’s Path’. I have set a Classroom Secrets Kids activity this week entitled Year 5 Decimal Sequences Maths Challenge. Your logins for Classroom Secrets Kids and Purple Mash have been stuck in your Homework Book.
