Term 4 Week 2

What we are doing in Lilac Class for the week beginning 27.2.23

What we are doing this week in Lilac Class for the week beginning 27.2.23

For Maths this week in Lilac Class, we are continuing with using place value charts and counters so we can associate the remainder with the amount ‘left over’ when we are dividing with remainders.  We will then be thinking about efficient division, consolidating our knowledge and understanding of division.  We are going to think of the most efficient way or appropriate methods to use in a range of contexts, for example using informal methods such as partitioning using factor pairs and number lines and then comparing them with the written method.  We will then be solving problems with multiplication and division choosing which of these operations is needed to solve a problem.

In English this week in Lilac Class, we are continuing with the drafting of our descriptions written in the first person from the perspective of someone who is living in the workhouse during the Victorian period.

For Whole Class Guided Reading Lilac Class are reading Chapters 11 and 12 of Berlie Doherty’s ‘Street Child’ entitled ‘Shrimps’ and ‘The Spitting Crow’ Examples of our inference questions, where we read between the lines are: ‘Can you find evidence that suggests Jim was scared of the grandmother?’ and ‘Why do you think the boys ran away as soon as Jim tried to join in?’  We will also be developing our summarising skills drawing on key events and also sequencing events

For RE in Lilac Class we are examining the events leading up to Jesus’s resurrection in the Gospels.  We will be discussing the events that we felt were most important to us and annotating texts.   For Time and Place, Lilac Class are examining photographs as a primary source.  The photographs will be of Victorian children from different backgrounds and social class.  What do the photographs tell us about their lives?  For Science in Lilac Class, we are learning about evaporation and condensation and conducting an experiment to show a reversible change.  What happens to hot water when it cools?  How can we show this in an investigation?  For Design and the Arts, we are creating wall paper using polyprint tiles based on the designs of William Morris.  This week we are engraving our repeated patten based on the theme of nature into a polyprint tile and then using this as a printing block.  In Music, we are learning to sing ‘Food, Glorious Food’ from the Musical Oliver!
