Term 6 Week 7

Our trip to Hastings to visit The Blue Reef Aquarium.

Lilac’s trip to the Blue Reef Aquarium on Thursday 7th July 2022.

Last Thursday Lilac Class spent the day in Hastings.  We went on the train and then walked down to The Blue Reef Aquarium. Here are some of the facts that we learnt during our Marine Tour and Talk:

  • If sharks are fed regularly they will not eat other fish in the aquarium.
  • Sharks are important to our marine ecosystem.  They keep fish numbers down and keep the ecosystem balanced.
  • Male and not female sea horses become pregnant and carry their eggs in their pouch.
  • Sea horses are very social and hook tails.  This is like shaking hands.
  • Sea horses do not have big fins and they use their tails to move through the water.
  • Archer fish can spit up to 3 metres when they spit out water.
  • Anemone is alive and is made up of tiny organisms. The tentacles are poisonous.
