What we are doing in Lilac Class for the wb. 18.7.22

What we are doing this week in Lilac Class

WB: 18.7.22

In Maths this week in Lilac Class, we are finishing off multiplying and dividing decimals by 10, 100 and 1,000 where our focus is the movement of the digits on a place value grid.  In English this week, we are writing a leaflet entitled ‘Save Henderson Island’.  We will be learning about the impact of plastic pollution on our seas and oceans and how it affects marine life.  As a whole class, Lilac Class are reading to the end of term our supplementary texts such the picture books ‘The Window’ by Jeannie Baker and ‘Flotsam’ by David Wiesner, poetry – ‘The Lost Words’ by Jackie Morris and Robert Macfarlane and ‘Tales Told in Tents:  Stories from Central Asia’ by Sally Pomme and Sophie Herxheimer. We will also be reading ‘How the Whale became and other stories’ by Ted Hughes.

In RE this week, we are re-visiting our Big Question: ‘What do Muslims believe about the way they should live their lives and why?’ Lilac Class will be drawing on all their knowledge they have gathered this term about Islam.

For our Time and Place topic entitled ‘Life on Earth’ we are continuing our work about natural resources.  This week we are identifying some of Great Britain’s natural resources and explaining how they are used.  We will be asking the question ‘Which natural resources need to be shared or imported?’   For Science in Lilac Class, we are learning about the stages of human development.

For Homework I would like you to check that you have completed all your Classroom Secrets and Purple Mash online tasks.  I have also set all the chapters and quizzes of our e-book ‘An Invasion of the Navvies’ for you to read during the holiday.  This is optional.  I have also attached our Wider Curriculum Learning Matrix for the Summer Term.  This contains optional activities for you to complete.
