Term 4 Week 3

Lilac Class's Science Experiment about a solid dissolving in liquid to form a solution

Our main question was 'What conditions cause more solid to dissolve?

Our method that we conducted was a fair and reliable test.  We filled 4 identical glasses with the same amount of water (the solvent).  2 glasses were filled with cold water, 1 with warm water and 1 with hot.  We then put a teaspoon of sugar into each glass.  We stirred one of the glasses that contained cold water for 30 seconds.  We then observed what happened to the sugar (the solute) in each glass.

Our results showed that the higher the temperature the more of the solute was dissolved.  He also found out that force (the stirring) broke up and dissolved most of the solute in the solvent.   When the solute in the hot water was stirred the solute completely disappeared and a clear solution was made.

Our test was reliable because we got the same result when each group conducted the experiment.
