Term 4 Week 3

What we are doing in Lilac Class for the wb. 7.3.22

What we are doing this week in Lilac Class

WB: 7.3.22

In Maths this week in Lilac Class, we are finishing off our work about multiplying 3-digits by 2-digits.  We are using our multiplication skills to find area and solve multi-step problems.  Methods previously used such as using an area model will also be used.  We will then move onto multiplying 4-digits by 2-digits.  Lilac class will also start division revising work covered in year 4 and then moving onto short division method using counters to partition numbers and then group to develop understanding.

In English this week, we are levelling up our ‘Narrative Workhouse’ poetry writing about life in a Victorian workhouse examining carefully poems that have been written about this subject and the similes, metaphors and alliteration used . In Guided Reading, we are reading chapters 16 and 17 of Berlie Doherty’s Street Child.  Lilac Class are developing their inference skills, answering questions where the answer is not always obvious in the text.  For example, ‘Read the first paragraph on p.133 about the description of the night.  How does this describe howJim is feeling?’

In RE, Lilac Class are finishing off the timeline of events leading up to Jesus’s death.  We are carefully analysing texts from the Bible and highlighting key phrases and vocabulary. We are outlining the timeline of the ‘Big Story’ of the Bible and explaining how Incarnation and Salvation fit within it.

For our Topic this week, Lilac Class are examining photographs of Victorian children from across the class system.  We will be considering what these photographs tell us about the way the children lived and what their lives were like.  For Science in Lilac Class we are writing up an explanation of our results from our experiment about the processes of evaporation and condensation and why it was an example of a reversible change. In Art, we are continuing with our Victorian samplers using binka and a selection of coloured thread.
