What we are doing in Lilac Class for the wb. 31.1.22

What we are doing this week in Lilac Class

WB: 31.1.22

In Maths this week in Lilac Class, we will be finishing off our work about multiplying by 10, 100 and 1,000 and then be moving onto dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000.  Lilac Class are learning about what happens to the digits and how dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000 links to multiplying by 10, 100 and 1,000.  We will revisit ‘inverse’ when exploring the relationship between multiplication and division.  We will also be working with multiples of 10, 100 and 1,000.

In English this week, we are now editing our first draft of our version of Chapter 1 ‘The Shilling Pie’ from Berlie Doherty’s Street Child.  We are levelling up our viewpoint narratives by looking carefully at our next steps and the success criteria for this piece of writing.  For Guided Reading this week, Lilac Class will be reading Chapters 8 and 9 of Street Child. We are using our own words to describe the infirmary of the workhouse by summarising text.  We will also be examining unknown words and finding out the meaning by looking at the context of the sentence.

In RE, Father John will be visiting Lilac Class to give us a talk about Moses.  We will be finding out what the ‘Traits of Moses’ means and why God chose Moses to free the Hebrew people.  This session will also give us an opportunity to ask Father John questions.

For our Topic this week, Lilac Class are continuing to learn about the Industrial Revolution and the impact it had on the population of Great Britain.  In Science, Lilac Class are writing up the results and an explanation (using key scientific vocabulary) for our Science experiment about testing for the best insulator.  What material would be best to use for keeping Dr Charles’ tea warm?  In Art, we are learning about the 19th Century Victorian landscape painters who used watercolours and the Arts and Crafts Movement. We will be painting our own version of a Victorian landscape using watercolours Lilac Class are paying attention to the use of perspective and developing our colour mixing skills.
