Term 3 Week 3

Homework for Lilac Class for the wb. 24.1.22

Written Homework to be completed by 1st February 2022

  1. Please learn the following words for a spelling test. This week we are learning ‘tricky’ words from the Year 5 and 6 word list:

thorough    guarantee   immediately   vehicle   yacht

  1. Put each word into a sentence that explains the meaning   If you are unsure, look the word up in a dictionary. Please put a comparative conjunction (e.g. as well as, also, equally, similarly, likewise) or contrasting conjunction (e.g. alternatively, although, whereas, while, in contrast, however, despite) into your sentence. Can you put a relative pronoun in your sentence? For example, who, whom, whoever, when, whatever, where, which and that. Can you use commas, dashes or brackets to show additional information? Can you use some direct speech? Remember to use a range of punctuation.  You do not need to do all of these things!  Try using at least three!  Please look carefully at the VCOP sheet that has been stuck into your Homework book.  This will help you.  The Monarchy sheet tells you strategies to help you learn your spelling and the use of pyramid words.
  2. English Task: We are learning about the Industrial Revolution.  Research some facts about the Industrial Revolution this week.  What facts can you find out about the steam engine and the Spinning Jenny?  Draw and label an illustration.  Do you think the Industrial Revolution was a good thing?
  3. Online Tasks: For Purple Mash I have set you Chapter 3 of our new e-book ‘Ollie and the Great Stink’ and a quiz to go with this.  For Classroom Secrets Kids I have set you a task entitled Estimate and Approximate. Your logins for Classroom Secrets Kids and Purple Mash have been stuck in your Homework Book.
