Term 3 Welcome back

What we are doing in Lilac Class for the wb. 3.1.22

What we are doing this week in Lilac Class

WB: 3.1.22

In Maths this week in Lilac Class, we are starting our new block of learning ‘Multiplication and Division’. We will be building on our times tables knowledge by finding multiples of whole numbers.  We will be looking at whether there is a pattern that links multiples (the product of a number and another whole number) to each other.  We are then moving onto learning about factors of a number that multiply together to give that number, meaning that factors come in pairs.  The children will be exploring factors pictorially by drawing arrays.

In English, we will start to read the preface and first Chapter of ‘Street Child’ by Berlie Doherty.  This story is set in the Docklands of Victorian London. We will be particularly focusing on characterisation and setting.

In RE, our new Big Question is ‘How can following God bring freedom and justice?  We will be exploring this answer through studying Moses. As part of our formative assessment we will be answering the question and writing a few words or phrases that come to mind when we read this question.  We will also be thinking about what freedom and justice mean and considering the question ‘Why might people seek for freedom or fight for justice today?’ As a class we are going to discuss what the life of a Hebrew slave must have been like and will imagine their thoughts and feelings.  We will be thinking about what salvation and oppression mean.

Our topic this term is about the Victorians. Lilac Class are to start this new area of learning by writing down all the things they already know about the Victorians and then what they would like to find out.  We will then be learning about Queen Victoria herself.  In Science, we will start our topic entitled ‘Properties and Changing of Materials’.  We will begin this topic by sorting materials and objects according to their properties.  For example, whether they are waterproof, magnetic, are made through a reversible change or an irreversible change, are a conductor, are flammable, transparent, opaque or they are an insulator.
