Term 6 Week 7

What we are doing in Lilac Class for the WB. 19.7.21

What we are doing this week in Lilac Class

WB: 19.7.21

In Maths in Lilac Class for these last few days, we are revising some of the key topics we have covered this year and will be involved in times tables activities.

For English, we are creating a storyboard retelling the main events that take place in the picture book ‘Window’ by Jeannie Baker.  The theme is conservation and how a beautiful area of countryside becomes a built up city.  We will also be reading a children’s version of Robinson Crusoe and discussing the main themes.

This week for our Whole Class Guided Reading, we are continuing to look at a range of texts that link to our topic ‘Life on Earth’. For example, ‘Flotsdam’ by David Weisner and a selection of poetry about the natural world, for example, ‘The Lost Words’ by Jackie Morris and Robert Macfarlane and ‘Under the Moon and Over the Sea’ by Gaby Morgan.  We will also be reading the poem ‘A March Calf’ by Ted Hughes.

In RE, we are finishing out work on Islam.  Lilac Class are finding out how and why Muslim people show that the Qur’an is important to them and making connections between the Qur’an and how we live our lives.

In Topic, we are finishing off our work about Indian culture.  We are learning about Indian dance and music, architecture, religion and festivals, clothing and cuisine. In DT, we are finishing our information leaflets entitled ‘Save Henderson Island!’

For Home Learning, I would like you to read all the e-book ‘A Horde of Ravens’ and multi-choice questions set on Purple Mash.  I would also like you to check that you have finished all your My Maths activities I have set you.  Please remember our Year 5 Summer Term Wider Curriculum Home Learning Matrix where there are optional activities.  I have attached it again for this week.
