Wednesday 24th February

Daily plans for Wednesday 24th February 2021

24.2.21     *REMEMBER YOUR CHALLENGE AND TO DIP INTO YOUR ‘MY FAMOUS VICTORIAN’ PROJECT.  Thank you to all of you who have so far sent in project work. I have learnt so much!  Please remember to send me any work that you do not have answer sheets for.  I would particularly like to see RE, Science predictions and evaluations and any independent writing that you have done.  Thank you.

PREPARATION FOR OUR 2 LIVE SESSIONS TODAY:

English at 11.15 today – check you have read and looked at the slides I attached yesterday from ‘You Wouldn’t Want to Be a Victorian Schoolchild’ by John Malam

Science at 1.30 today -  I would like you to take part!  You will need the following:

2 containers that are a different size - maybe a mug and a bowl.  It is important that the diameter of one container is wider than the other.

Hot water (not boiling).  Please have help from an adult to get this.

Cling film or saucer/plate to cover the top of each container

In addition, please find out the meanings of the following terms prior to the lesson:

evaporate/evaporation   condense/condensation  liquid   gas   water vapour   molecules   surface area   reversible change   irreversible change

MORNING

1.Handwriting/Spelling

Copy out each of your spellings 5 times and then on a different piece of paper write each one out one by one covering them up and then check that you have written them correctly.  If you have spelt a word incorrectly do the same thing again until you have written it correctly. Write a word as a pyramid if you are having trouble learning how to spell it.  co-ordinate    co-operate   co-exist    re-tell   re-enter   re-emerge   re-invent   re-ignite

2. Maths

Today we are learning to multiply 2-digits by 2-digits using a formal written method.  Please watch the White Rose Learning Video vimeo.com/488553863 working through the questions. I have uploaded the worksheet and answers that accompany this video.  Please remember to pause the video when you need to do calculations and give yourself plenty of time. If you feel confident I have also uploaded Classroom Secrets Multiplying 2-digits by 2-digits Power Point Slides and Reasoning and Problem Solving Multiplying 2-digits by 2-digits with answers.  These are very tricky.  Start with the easiest sheets first!

  1. English

1.  Today will be a live google meet session.  We will be reading through and discussing ‘You Wouldn’t Want to Be a Victorian Schoolchild’ together.  This will be a basis for a diary account.

2. Please finish your Workhouse Poem and send it to me for our Class Book.

2.  Continue with your new ‘Talk for Writing’ Booklet.  Read pages 24 and 25.  You do not have to make your own potion but write one using the instruction language on page 24.  You could use one of the potions on page 25 that have been presented using bullet points.

AFTERNOON

3.  Reading

Please remember to read independently for 40 minutes!  When you log onto Purple Mash you will see that I have given you an e-book to read ‘Ollie and the Great Stink’.  I have so far given you Chapter 1-5 to read.

Please remember to read independently for 40 minutes!  For your 30 minute Guided Reading Session I would like you to start the reading comprehension questions for Chapters 12 and 13 of ‘Street Child’.  Please stop when you get to the additional questions.

You will need to reread passages of the text to find your answers.

4.  Science

Today will be a live google meet session.  Please make sure you have everything you need.  Read what the experiment involves below and make a prediction as to what will happen to the inside of the covering that has been put over each container.  Record your prediction on the sheet that I have uploaded for you.  Use some of the scientific language that I wanted you to find the definition of before the lesson that is at the beginning of this blog.  Here is what I would like you to do during the session:

Put hot water into each container and then put cling film over each one or a saucer/plate. Leave for one minute then take the coverings off. As a class we will be discussing our results.

Now write up your results and explanation for them on the record sheet I have attached for the lesson today.

  1.  What happened to the inside of each of the coverings?
  2.  Using the key scientific vocabulary for this session to explain what has happened.
  3. Why is this experiment an example of a reversible change?

LO:  To conduct an experiment that is a reversible change

Main Question

Why has evaporation and condensation occurred?

Remember to use the scientific language that we have discussed for this lesson when explaining your thinking.

Questions to investigate:

  1. What happened to the inside of each of the coverings?
  2. Why are there more water droplets on the inside of the larger covering?
  3. Can you explain what has happened using the key scientific vocabulary for this session?
  4. Why is this experiment an example of a reversible change?

1.My prediction as to what will happen to the inside of each covering

2.My results and explanation

3.Can you think of everyday examples of where evaporation and condensation occur?

4.How do you think heat and wind will affect the speed and the amount of evaporation?
