Term 4 Week 1

What Lilac Class are doing for the wb. 22.2.21

What we are doing this week in Lilac Class

WB: 22.2.21

In Maths this week in Lilac Class, we are learning to multiply 4-digits by 1-digit and will then move onto multiplying 2-digits by 2-digits using an ‘area model’. This will involve using pictorial representations to solve calculations.

In English, we are going to be using as a resource ‘You Wouldn’t Want to Be a Victorian School Child!’ by John Malam.  This historical text will be used as scaffolding and stimulus for a diary entry. We will be describing our typical school day as a Victorian child.  There will be a live Google Meet teaching session this week on Wednesday 24th February when Dr Charles will discuss various parts of the book.  In Lilac Class we will also be putting the final touches to our workhouse poems that will be put into our Class Book of Workhouse Poems for our Reading Corner.  In Guided Reading, we are now reading Chapters 12 and 13 of ‘Street Child’. Our focus will be again explaining our opinion about a character’s actions and to make predictions based on what we know about events and characters in the story.  Some of our ongoing skills are to understand and explore the meaning of words in context and to find quotations from the text to support our answers. We are also continuing with ‘Talk for Writing’ activity Booklet entitled ‘Wonderful Wizards’ complied by Maria Richards.

In RE, will are starting our new unit of learning entitled ‘Humanism’.  This week we will be exploring what ‘Humanism’ means.  This term we are going to find out about how being a Humanist affects life choices and decisions.

For our Topic this week, Lilac Class are studying photos of Victorian children and thinking about what sort of lives these children might have had.  We will be considering what information these photos tell us. This discussion activity will be a live Google Meet session and will take place on Tuesday 23rd February.  In Science, there will be a live Google Meet Science lesson on Wednesday the 24th of February, led by Dr Charles.  Lilac Class are conducting an experiment to show a reversible change and we will be developing our knowledge and scientific vocabulary associated with solids, liquids and gases. In Art, we will be designing our own repeated patterns based on the theme of nature.  The work of William Morris will be our inspiration.

Please remember our whole class Google Meet story sessions at 10.15 on a Thursday.  On Tuesday there will be another live session from the FSC at 10.30.
