Wednesday 27th January

Daily Plans for Wednesday 27th January 2021

27.1.21      * Remember to dip into your project about a famous Victorian of your choice when you have finished an activity and have some spare time.

MORNING

1.Handwriting/Spelling

Copy out each of your spellings 5 times and then on a different piece of paper write each one out one by one covering them up and then check that you have written them correctly.  If you have spelt a word incorrectly do the same thing again until you have written it correctly. Write a word as a pyramid if you are having trouble learning how to spell it.  These are not easy words!  sign   resign   resignation   signal   assignment   design   redesign   signature

2. Maths

Today we are learning to divide numbers by 10 and 100.   Please watch 2 White Rose Learning Videos working through the questions. The link for divide numbers by 10 is vimeo.com/475398155 and the link for divide by 100 is vimeo.com/475823716. Remember to have a piece of paper and a pen or pencil to jot down any answers or working out. Please remember to pause the video when you need to do calculations and give yourself plenty of time. Also remember that the answers are always given by the person who is presenting the videos. Remember to also show any of your working out. If you have time and feel confident I have uploaded a Classroom Secrets divide by 100 Activity Worksheet with answers.

2.  English

1. In preparation for your next piece of writing I would like you to finish your English work from yesterday and then complete the reading comprehension sheet I have uploaded ‘Escaping The Workhouse’.  Answers are given.

2.  I have attached our new ‘Talk for Writing’ Booklet.  ‘Wonderful Wizards’ by Maria Richards. Read the first 2 pages and then create your own set of wizard ‘Top Trumps’.  Play a game of Top Trumps with a member of your family.

AFTERNOON

3.  Reading

Please remember to read independently for 40 minutes!  For your 30 minute Guided Reading Session I would like you to start the reading comprehension questions for Chapters 6 and 7 of ‘Street Child’.  Please stop when you get to the additional questions section.  You will need to reread passages of the text to find your answers.

4.  Science

Today in class we will be conducting our experiment to find out whether wool, foil, newspaper or cling film is the best insulator.  I will share the results tomorrow and ask you to write your own explanation for them.  For today, I would like you to watch the BBC Bite Size Video about Class P6’s experiments and predictions. Watch the video and then watch it again pausing it after each experiment has been shown.  Here is the link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zxkc87h

On a piece of paper jot down your answers to these questions:

  1. If you were conducting the first experiment about testing for materials that are conductors, what materials do you think would be conductors and what materials would not be conductors (these are called insulators)?  A conductor would light up the bulb.  Why?
  2. Why is the second experiment a fair test and what materials do you think you could use in this experiment that are absorbent and non-absorbent?
  3. Why do you think in the final experiment the biggest jar keeps the candle alight for the longest?
