Term 3 Week 2

This is an overview of your week's learning.  There will be a daily blog post to direct you to your tasks for the day.

Term 3 Week 2 - overview

Welcome to week 2 of our current home learning provision.

I am looking forward to beginning story time sessions on Thursday!  You should have received an invitation to join it via parentpay.

Your learning this week will include:

Independent reading– 30 minutes per day and recorded in your yellow reading record.

Whole class reader– The Iron Man.  This week we will be reading chapter 2 and answering comprehension questions about it. I hope you are enjoying the book so far. It contains really interesting use of punctuation and sentence structure.    It also challenges our thinking about the Iron Monster!

This week I have provided you with a pdf of the chapter and have highlighted the first word for each page of the original text.  I have also added the page number.  This will help when you answer the questions that refer to specific page numbers in the book I am using (faber and faber).

You might also want to listen to the chapter being read, following this link:

English– We will continue with the Goblinology booklet and are working towards creating a report.  Each day I will explain exactly which tasks I would like you to complete.

Spellings– we will focus on words ending in  -ture. You will have some flash cards and definition sheets to help you learn and practise these words.

Grammar– we are practising using apostrophes for plural possession.  I will provide you with a powerpoint and fluency and reasoning sheets over 2 sessions.  Please remember that while I have to upload a set of 3 sheets, I do not expect you to do all 3.  We would usually do sheet 2 in class but you may feel you want to challenge yourself further!

Maths– Our work on length will continue with 3 recap lessons on adding, subtracting lengths and measuring perimeter, as well as measuring perimeter on a grid.  You will receive the link to a recorded lesson and the worksheets and answer sheets will be uploaded to the blog each day.

Maths fluency– I will continue to set math fluency activities which will mostly be practising times tables using a variety of platforms and activities.

Science– Using the Oak Academy teaching videos and quiz, we will be learning about how particles behave in the 3 states of matter.

RE – We will be thinking about how Christians try to be like Jesus and thinking about Jesus gathering disciples on Lake Galilee.  We will consider our favourite possessions and routines and what it might be like to give them up.

Topic– following last week’s work on the UK parliament, we will be explaining issues that are important to us, and what could be done about them.  Again, there will be 3 sheets in the attachment, but please

Art– I will be asking you to create your own Gorgio Morandi style life.

ICT– I will set a coding activity on Purple Mash for you to complete in your scheduled session on Thursday
