Weekly Learning Update

Term 1 week 4

This week in Chestnut Class we will be continuing our work linked to the story Journey by Aaron Becker.  After looking in depth at the illustrations, we have been considering the emotions of the main character, page by page.  We have started planning a letter from her to her parents outlining her feelings at the beginning of the text, the adventures she goes through and how she feels when she is suspended from the mysterious air ship in a cage.  We will continue writing these letters and then go through an editing and improving exercise before we create neat copies for a display.

In our spelling and grammar sessions we will be practising a range of homophones and looking at expanding sentences using conjunctions.

Maths will see us continuing to work on place value.  A solid understanding of this is essential before we move on to our next topic, addition and subtraction.  Our focus will be counting in 1000s, working with 1000s, 100s, 10s and 1s and partitioning.  We will also be carrying out times tables practise using the online platform Purple Mash and singing some songs too!

In RE we will develop our understanding of the Christian creation story, found in Genesis.  We will be linking it to our own ideas about what is wonderful in the natural world.

We will be continuing to link our creative work to the story of Journey.  We have already made some beautiful 3-D hot air balloons.

We have been practising football skills in PE and look forward to stating cross country this week.
