Term 1 Week 7

Here is an outline of your learning for term 1, week 7:

Term 1 Week 7– overview

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading) will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes of reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

Our ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence will be on Monday morning.  Ukuleles are provided by school.

Spelling and grammar –we will be revising the spelling words we have worked on this term.  We will also be working on recognising and using pronouns.

In English, we continue to focus on the book ‘Escape from Pompeii’ by Christina Ballit.  This week, we will complete our own versions of the story.  We have made a great start to this, and it will be exciting to see how our tales develop.

In Maths, we will begin a unit on addition and subtraction and will be adding and subtracting 1, 10, 100 and 1,000 from numbers.  We will also be adding 4-digit numbers with no exchange.

In guided reading we will finish our text ‘The Magic Finger’ by Roald Dahl.  This is a very fun text to use to develop our skills of comprehension.

In RE, our unit of focus is ‘Creation’ and we will be completing our work by reflecting on the key themes we have visited in Genesis.

In History, we will continue our learning journey, investigating the invasion of Britain by the Romans, learning how many attempts they made before they were successful.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING and THURSDAY AFTERNOON with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class or from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Barter
