Term 6 Week 5

Here is an outline of your learning for term 6, week 5:

Term 6 Week 5 – overview

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading) they will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

Spelling and grammar – we are revising words from the year 3 and 4 statutory list.

In English, we are going to complete our own versions of the epic Anglo-Saxon poem, Beowulf.  So far, they are fantastic!

In Maths we will continue learning about decimals.  We will be learning about hundredths as fractions and decimals, dividing 1 or 2-digit numbers by 100 and making a whole with tenths and hundredths.

In guided reading we will be continuing our new text, Varjak Paw by SF Said.  It is a mysterious tale set around a family of Mesopotamian Blue cats……

In RE our unit of focus is ‘How do Hindu people worship and celebrate?’  We will be learning about the meaning behind, and the celebration of, Diwali.

Mrs Atkinson will be teaching Science on Monday afternoons.  This term’s topic is habitats.

In History we will be learning about the Anglo Saxons.  This week we will be exploring the journey from paganism to Christianity that occurred during the Anglo-Saxon period.

We are hoping to begin a weaving project using fabrics dyed with vegetable dyes.  They have certainly been making our classroom smell interesting!!

PE is on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.  Swimming is on Friday.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Barter
