Term 5 Week 2

Here is an outline of your learning for term 5 week 2

Term 5 Week 2 – overview

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading) they will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

We have our usual Monday morning ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence

Spelling and grammar – we are learning words with an ‘sion’ ending.  We will be looking at using conjunctions in paragraphs.

In English, we will finish writing and editing the letters we researched and planned last term.  We will be bringing together our information on plastic pollution and the persuasive techniques we have learned to use.

In Maths we will begin a new unit on fractions, first identifying that fractions make up a whole, counting beyond a whole and partitioning mixed numbers.

In guided reading we will be finishing our text by creating a guide on how to care for a dragon.

In RE our new unit of focus is ‘What do Hindu people believe about God?’  We will be learning about how Hindu people view god.

Mrs Atkinson will be teaching Science on Monday afternoons.  This term’s topic is a continuation of term 4: animals including humans and will involve the human digestive system and food chains.

In History we will be learning about the Anglo Saxons.  This week we will being considering who the Anglo Saxons were, where the various tribes came from and why they came to settle.

We will start painting working on the designs for our sculptures after ensuring that they all have a solid base coat of white.

In Computing we will be carrying out our second lesson on photo editing.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.  Swimming is on Friday.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Tuesday because of the Bank Holiday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
