Term 5 Week 1

Here is an outline of your learning for term 5 week 1

Term 5 Week 1 – overview

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading) they will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

We have our usual Monday morning ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence

Spelling and grammar – we are learning words with an ‘sc’ spelling and an ‘s’ sound.  We will be looking at identifying paragraphs and using fronted adverbials in paragraphs.

In English, we will begin writing the letters we researched and planned last term.  We will be bringing together our information on plastic pollution and the persuasive techniques we have learned to use.

In Maths we will continue our new unit on length and perimeter by calculating missing measurements of rectilinear shapes, calculating the perimeter of rectilinear shapes and calculating the perimeter of polygons.

In guided reading we will be finishing our text, The Boy Who Grew Dragons, by Andy Shepherd.  Next week we will begin a new text!

In RE our new unit of focus is ‘What do Hindu people believe about God?’

Mrs Atkinson will be teaching Science on Monday afternoons.  This term’s topic is a continuation of term 4: animals including humans and will involve the human digestive system and food chains.

In History we will be learning about the Anglo Saxons.  This week we will being looking at timelines to place the Anglo Saxon period in context and also looking at a timeline of the period itself.

We will start painting working on the designs for our sculptures after ensuring that they all have a solid base coat of white.

In Computing we will be starting a new unit on photo editing.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.  Swimming is on Friday.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Tuesday because of the Bank Holiday.
