Term 4 Week 3

Here is an outline of your learning for term 4 week 3

Term 4 Week 3 – overview

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading) they will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

We have our usual Monday morning ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence.

Spelling and grammar – we will be learning about the suffixes -sion, -ssion, -cian and -tion.

In English, we will be writing our information texts on the water cycle n ow that we have made sure our factual information is correct.  We will focus on technical vocabulary, sub-headings and present tense writing.

In Maths we will move on to dividing 2 digits by 1 and also with remainders.  We will also look at efficient calculations.

In guided reading we will be continuing with our new text, The Boy Who Grew Dragons, by Andy Shepherd.  This is a longer text than we have previously studied and we are creating a wall of new vocabulary we are learning as we read.

In RE our new unit of focus is Salvation which leads us up to Easter.  We will be thinking about the links between the events of Maundy Thursday and what occurs in Church to remember this.

Mrs Atkinson will be teaching Science on Monday afternoons.  This term’s topic is animals including humans and will involve the human digestive system and food chains.

In Geography we are going to be comparing a European capital city with London.  We will be using last week’s learning about physical and human geography to help us with this comparison.

In computing we will begin our unit on data logging by looking at data collection and particularly data gathered over time.

We will be continuing layering our sculptures with papier mache.  We have already made a good start and will need to apply several levels for a smooth surface.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.  Swimming is on Friday.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Barter
