Term 4 Week 2

Here is an outline of your learning for term 4 week 2

Term 4 Week 2– overview

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading) they will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

We have our usual Monday morning ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence.

Spelling and grammar – we will be learning the meanings of, and using, the prefixes anti and inter.   We will also begin practising words with the suffixes sure, ture and cher.

In English, we will be beginning a short unit on information texts.  We will be using prior learning from our science topic to create an information text on the water cycle.

For World Book Day we are going to be creating our own poetry based on the theme of ’10 ways to…..’.

In Maths we will move on to formal methods for multiplying 2 and 3 digits by 1 and also dividing.

In guided reading we will be continuing with our new text, The Boy Who Grew Dragons, by Andy Shepherd.  This is a longer text than we have previously studied and we are creating a wall of new vocabulary we are learning as we read.

In RE our new unit of focus is Salvation which leads us up to Easter.  We will be considering why Judas betrayed Jesus which led to his arrest.

Mrs Atkinson will be teaching Science on Monday afternoons.  This term’s topic is animals including humans and will involve the human digestive system and food chains.

In Geography we are going to be learning about what human and physical geography are and learning how to recognise the features identified on maps.

In computing we will begin our unit on data logging by looking at data collection and particularly data gathered over time.

We will be continuing layering our sculptures with papier mache.  We have already made a good start!

PE is on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.  Swimming is on Friday.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Barter
