Term 4 Week 1

Here is an outline of your learning for term 4 week 1

Term 4 Week 1– overview

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading) they will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

We have our usual Monday morning ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence.

Spelling and grammar – we will be practising words from the year 3 and 4 statutory spelling list and looking at some words from our own personal spelling targets.  We will also be learning about prepositional phrases.

In English, we will be creating neat copies of our own version of the Great Kapok Tree and turning them into books for our own reading area.

In Maths we will continue our multiplication and division journey looking at related multiplication and division facts, informal multiplication methods and formal multiplication of 2 digits by 1 digit.

In guided reading we will be continuing with our new text, The Boy Who Grew Dragons, by Andy Shepherd.  This is a longer text than we have previously studied and we are creating a wall of new vocabulary we are learning as we read.

In RE our new unit of focus is Salvation which leads us up to Easter.  We will be considering why Christians call the day Jesus died ‘Good Friday’.  We will particularly focus on Maundy Thursday and the Last Supper.

Mrs Atkinson will be teaching Science on Monday afternoons.  This term’s topic is animals including humans and will involve the human digestive system and food chains.

In computing we will complete our learning on coding before moving on a unit on data logging.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.  Swimming will commence this Friday!

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Barter
