Chestnut Class Learning for Term 3 Week 2

Here is an outline of your learning for term 3 week 2.

Term 3 Week 2 – overview

We would like to welcome Miss Bradley to our class.  She will be with us for term 3 as part of her teacher training course.

We have our usual Monday morning ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence.

Spelling and grammar – We will be practising the year 3 and 4 spelling list and learning words with a -ture ending.  We will also be learning about using apostrophes to show plural possession and when NOT to use apostrophes.

In English we be completing a short writing assessment and then launching into a new text, The Great Kapok tree by Lynne Cherry, to help us create a rainforest dilemma story of our own.  We will begin this by creating our own great tree and considering what its habitat is like and the type of animals that dwell in it.  We will also consider the terms dilemma and resolution and how they play out in this text.

In Maths we will complete a short assessment of last term’s learning before we move on to multiplication and division.  We will be working on multiplication and division facts for the 3 and 6 times tables.

In guided reading we will be continuing with our new text, The Boy Who Grew Dragons, by Andy Shepherd.  This is a longer text than we have previously studied and we are creating a wall of new vocabulary we are learning as we read.

In RE our new unit of focus is gospel.  We will begin by examining the concept of gospel and analysing the corresponding big frieze image.

Mrs Atkinson will be teaching Science on Thursday afternoons.  This term’s topic is states of matter.

In art we will be continuing to look at pattern.  We have collected examples of pattern and will be creating our own patterned papers to use to make a Japanese koi themed piece of artwork

In computing we will be on lesson 2 of our unit on repetition in shapes where we are using snippets of code to draw shapes and debug faulty codes.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.  Swimming will commence this Friday!

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.
