Term 2 Week 2

Here is an outline of your learning for term 2 week 2

Term 2 Week 2 – overview

We had a wonderful trip to the Amelia Scott on Friday.  We got to explore the new format of the museum, searched for Roman objects, handled genuine Egyptian, Greek and Roman artefacts and made our own mosaics!

We have our usual Monday morning ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence.

Spelling and grammar – we will be practising using the prefixes il-, im-, in- and ir-.  We will also be working on identifying nouns and pronouns.

In English we be reviewing our Escape From Pompeii stories.  We are then moving on to a unit on instruction writing based on the construction of Roman roads and gladiator training!

In Maths we will continue to practise addition with more than one exchange, before working on subtraction of 4-digit numbers with no exchange and then one or more than one exchange.

Our guided reading text for this term is The Iron Man by Ted Hughes.  This text will engage the children with more complicated vocabulary and a variation of punctuation and sentence length.

In RE our new unit of focus is incarnation.  This week we will recap what we already know about the incarnation and then focus on the similarities in language in the writing of John and the text of creation in Genesis.

Mrs Tompsett will be teaching Science on Thursday afternoons.  This term’s topic is electricity.

In art we will be continuing our work on the artist Gorgio Morandi.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING and THURSDAY AFTERNOON and with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.
