Term 1 Week 6

Here is an outline of your learning for term 1 week 6

Term 1 Week 6 – overview

Our whole school Harvest Mass is on Monday morning.

We have our usual Monday morning ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence.

Spelling and grammar – we will be practising spellings from the Year 3 and 4 statutory list, along with other focus spelling words highlighted in our latest writing.  We will be revising using apostrophes for possession with singular nouns.

In English we are going to be starting our own versions of Escape From Pompeii!  We have chosen our own characters using authentic Roman names.  We have thought about signs that an eruption is about to happen and how our characters escape.

In Maths we continue working on place value revising rounding to the nearest 10 and moving on to rounding to the nearest 100 and 1000.

We will be continuing our guided reading The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl.

In RE we will begin the year looking at the creation story.  This week we will be considering how Christians say sorry and the importance of forgiveness.

Mrs Tompsett will be teaching Science on Thursday afternoons.  This term begins with a unit on sound.

Our time and place focus on the spread of the Roman Empire and how the power of the Roman Army contributed to this success.

In art we will be setting up still life arrangements for sketching.  These will take the simple form of Gorgio Morandi’s work.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING and THURSDAY AFTERNOON and with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.
