Term 1 Week 5 – overview

 

We have our usual Monday morning ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence.

 

Spelling and grammar – we will continue to work on punctuating sentences properly and begin looking at the correct us of apostrophes for singular possession.  Our spellings will be a set of 4 homophones.

 

In English we are continuing to prepare to write our own stories based on Escape From Pompeii.  We will be sequencing the events of the volcanic eruption and writing our own descriptive phrases.  We will then begin to brainstorm ideas for our adapted version of the story, including original characters.

 

In Maths we continue working on place value with estimating numbers on a number line up to 10,000, ordering numbers, Roman numerals and rounding to the nearest 10.

 

We will be continuing our guided reading The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl.  

 

In RE we will begin the year looking at the creation story.  We will this week be revisiting the Fall and considering the effect of Adam and Eve’s actions on man’s relationship with God.

 

Mrs Tompsett will be teaching Science on Thursday afternoons.  This term begins with a unit on sound. 

 

Our time and place focus on the spread of the Roman Empire and how the power of the Roman Army contributed to this success.

 

In art we will be finishing off Roman shield designs and setting up still life arrangements for sketching.

 

PE is on MONDAY MORNING and THURSDAY AFTERNOON and with Mr Luckhurst.  

 

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.  

 

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.
