Term 1 Week 4

Here is an outline of your learning for term 1 week 4

Term 1 Week 4 – overview

We are very excited to have our second ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence!

Spelling and grammar – we will be revising words from the statutory Year 3 and 4 spelling list and words identified in last week’s writing assessment.  In grammar we are revisiting punctuating sentences correctly.  This will also be set for homework

In English, we are returning to Escape from Pompeii. We will be thinking about using powerful verbs in our writing and creating group poems using a thesaurus to extend our descriptions.  We will also be sequencing the events in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

In Maths, we continue working on place value by representing numbers to 10,000 and partitioning numbers in the thousands in a variety of ways.

We will be continuing our guided reading The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl.

In RE, we will begin the year looking at the creation story.  We will be addressing the text of Genesis 1 and considering the messages Christians might take from it.

Mrs Tompsett will be teaching Science on Thursday afternoons.  This term begins with a unit on sound.

Our time and place focus in the Roman invasion of Britain.  We have thought about what we know about the Romans and what we want to know.  We will be moving on to consider why Rome was geographically suitable as a settlement and also address the story of Romulus and Remus as a fictional account of the foundation of Rome.

In art we will be looking at the work of Italian artist Giorgio Morandi.  We will use this as a basis to investigate tone and brush strokes over the term.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING and THURSDAY AFTERNOON and with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.
