Term 6 Week 5

Here is an outline of your learning for term 6 week 5

Term 6 Week 5 – overview

We will have our last ukulele lesson of this year on Monday morning.  Mr Lawrence has been so impressed with how well the children have got to grips with this instrument and has been an excellent teacher.  Our thanks go to him.

Spelling and grammar – we will be revising words from the statutory Year 3 and 4 spelling list and words from our own personal spelling lists.  We will be consolidating tenses and noun types.

In English we will be continuing with our work on poetry with a focus on kennings, which were popular with Anglo-Saxon and Norse people.  We will be planning and writing kennings about ourselves initially.

In Maths we continue with decimals and will be writing decimals, comparing, ordering and rounding them.

We will be continuing our guided reading text Varjak Paw, written by SF Said.

In RE we will begin learning about the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandan which celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters.

Mrs Atkinson has planned a trip to the park on Monday afternoon as part of the science unit on habitats.  Thank you so much to the parents and carers who have offered to come and support this.

We will be finishing off our amazing weaving in our art session.  We have been using threads dyed using red cabbage and turmeric.  The results so far are stunning!

PE is now on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Barter
