Term 6 Week 4

Here is an outline of your learning for term 6, week 4.

Term 6 Week 4 – overview

Don’t forget that we have our sports day on Wednesday morning.  Everyone is welcome to come and cheer us on!

We will have our ukulele lesson as usual on Monday morning.

Spelling and grammar – we will be revising words from the statutory Year 3 and 4 spelling list and words from our own personal spelling lists.

In English we will be beginning a unit on image poems and will begin by exploring various languages features that we will need to use, such as similes, noun phrases and metaphors.  We will be examining a selection of popular children’s poetry to develop our own ideas.

In Maths we continue with decimals and will be working with 100ths on a place value chart and dividing 1 and 2-digit numbers by 100.

We will be continuing our guided reading text Varjak Paw, written by SF Said.  Our main protagonist Varjak has now made some friends in the city but continue to dream of his ancestor Jalal and learn more of the skills that he will need to survive and save his family back at the Contessa’s house.

In RE we will begin learning about the Hindu festival of Holi, which promises to be very colourful!

In our topic session we will be learning about Anglo-Saxon religious beliefs, moving from paganism to Christianity. Last week we created some beautiful illuminated letters.  This week we will be beginning our weaving project using fabrics dyed with natural dyes.

PE is now on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.
