Term 6 Week 3

Here is an outline of your learning for term 6, week 3.

Term 6 Week 3– overview

We will have our ukulele lesson as usual on Monday morning.

Spelling and grammar – we will be revising words from the statutory Year 3 and 4 spelling list.  In grammar we are consolidating adverbs and speech punctuation

We will be carrying out some assessments in English and Maths this week as the year comes to a close.  These will cover arithmetic, problem solving and reasoning in Maths, spelling, grammar and reading comprehension.

We will be continuing our guided reading text Varjak Paw, written by SF Said.  This is a more challenging text but the children are really enjoying it and can all say Mesopotamia very quickly!!!

In RE we will begin learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali and will be following this with a session on Holi the following week.

In our topic session we will be learning about Anglo Saxon religious beliefs, moving from paganism to Christianity.

We are going to be creating some illuminated letters based on examples from the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle.  We have read with interest the BBC news article about the Anglo-Saxon burial site discovered in Buckinghamshire during work to construct the HS2 railway.

PE is now on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Barter
