Term 5 Week 5

Here is an outline of your learning for term 5, week 5

Term 5 Week 5 – overview

We will have our ukulele lesson as usual on Monday morning.

Spelling and grammar – we will be working on using fronted adverbials and pronouns in paragraphs.  This will support the story writing we are about to embark upon.  In spelling sessions, we will be recapping using apostrophes for singular and plural possession.

In our maths lessons we will be completing our unit on fractions.  We will be calculating fractions of amounts and carrying out some problem solving using our fractions knowledge.  We will also continue to work on fluency in times tables.  We have begun to practise times tables using the format of the national test that we will be completing in June.  Information about this was sent out last week via Parentpay.  Regular short burst of practise at home will enhance speed and fluency in this regard.  Hit the Button is a game we regularly use to prepare ourselves and I really recommend this as an activity to try at home.

In English we will planning and starting to write our hero myths based on the Anglo Saxon epic poem, Beowulf.  This will involve us drawing together the many writing techniques we have been working on over the term.

We will be continuing our guided reading text Varjak Paw, written by SF Said.

In RE we continue with our study of the Hindu religion with a focus on the concepts of samsara, moksha and dharma.

In our topic session we will learn about what kingship was like in the Anglo Saxon period.

PE is now on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.  On Friday, the children will be having an extra PE lesson with Mrs Smallcombe in the afternoon.  Please ensure that they have their PE kits with them.

We will be continuing our Beowulf animations using the 2Animate program.  The children are really mastering how to create a smooth cartoon by making minimal changes to each slide.  Their use of sound effects is brilliant!

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Barter
