Term 5 Week 2

Here is an outline of your learning for term 5, week 2

Term 5 Week 2– overview

Ukulele lessons will continue this week.

Spelling and grammar – we will be working on using standard English, with a focus on correct use of have not of and these/those.  Spellings will be words ending with ‘scion’.

In our maths lessons we will be continuing our unit on fractions.  We will continue working on our understanding of equivalent fractions and also fractions greater than 1.  We will also continue to work on fluency in times tables and this work is being set every week as homework.  We are working towards the national times tables test and I will shortly be sending out some information for you about this.

In English we will be learning about the writing techniques of ‘show not tell’ which is a more sophisticated device to show how a character is feeling.  We will be writing our own sentences using some of the main characters from Beowulf.  These will be useful when we create our own hero myths.  We will also consider how tension is plotted through the story and create ‘tension mountains’ as a visual representation of this.

We will be beginning our new guided reading text Varjak Paw, written by SF Said.

In RE we continue with our study of the Hindu religion.  This term we will be exploring the framework of the faith, and will be learning about the Hindu creation story.

Our historical and geographical study is based on the Anglo Saxon settlement of Britain.  We will be learning about the rich evidence from the excavation of the Sutton Hoo burial ship and what it can teach us about aspects of Anglo Saxon life.

PE is now on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,
