Term 4 Week 6

Here is an outline of your learning for term 4 week 6

Term 4 Week 6 – overview

Spelling and grammar – we will be working on using suffixes correctly and revising spellings from the statutory Year 3 and 4 list.

In our maths lessons we will be beginning a unit on fractions.  We will be recapping unit and non unit fractions, considering what a fraction actually is, and working with and counting in tenths.  We will also continue to work on fluency in times tables and this work is being set every week as homework.

In English we will be continuing our story writing based on the Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry.  We will be working on the arguments made by 4 rainforest creatures against the deforestation of the Amazon.  We will be using our knowledge of setting our direct speech and using interesting speech verbs.  We will also think about the outcome of the persuasive arguments and how this will end the story.  We will be practising our editing and improving skills before creating books from our stories.

We will be continuing with the next two chapters of The Boy Who Grew Dragons for whole class reading.

In RE we have a focus on Salvation.  We will be considering things we are prepared to stand up for and how we express those feelings.

We continue learning about Europe this and will be carrying out a comparison between 2 European cities:  London and Paris.  We will be utilising our understanding of physical and human geography to do this.

PE is now on FRIDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
