Term 4 Week 5

Here is an outline of your learning for term 4 week 5

Term 4 Week 5 – overview

We will have our ukulele lesson as usual on Monday morning.

Spelling and grammar – we will be working on spellings with the endings -ture, -sure and -cher.

In our maths lessons we will be working on area.  We will look at calculating area by counting squares and also using the multiplication method for squares and rectangles.  In addition, we will be creating rectilinear shapes with a given area and comparing area. We will also continue to work on fluency in times tables and this work is being set every week as homework.

In English we will be continuing with our work on The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry.  We will be creating story plans and working on story setting.  We have started to add words to our magpie books and hope to use lots of interesting vocabulary from those in our stories.

We will be continuing with the next two chapters of The Boy Who Grew Dragons for whole class reading.

In RE we have a focus on Salvation.  We will be considering how the events of Maundy Thursday are remembered in church now.  We will be looking at text from the accounts written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John to link with religious practice.

We continue learning about Europe this week with a focus on a specific country’s human and physical geography.  Our chosen country is Ukraine as it is so very present in all our minds at the moment.

We have begun a unit on coding in ICT and the children are really impressive in their understanding and excitement about learning more!

PE is now on FRIDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Barter
