Term 4 Week 4

Here is an outline of your learning for term 4, week 4

Term 4 Week 4– overview

We will have our ukulele lesson as usual on Monday morning.

Spelling and grammar – we will be working on spellings with the suffixes -cian, -sion, -tion and -ssion.  We will also be using expanded noun phrases and thinking about word families.

In our maths lessons we will be working on division of 2 and 3-digit numbers by 1-digit.  After this we will work on correspondence problems.  We will also continue to work on fluency in times tables and this work is being set every week as homework.

In English we will be continuing with our work on The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry.  We have chosen animal protagonists for our own story and created some really interesting persuasive speech for them.  We will be working on planning our own stories and setting the scene for our rainforest tale.

We will be continuing with the next two chapters of The Boy Who Grew Dragons for whole class reading.

In RE we have a focus on Salvation.  We will be considering how the events of Maundy Thursday are remembered in church now.  We will be looking at text from the accounts written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John to link with religious practice.

We continue working on Europe and will be identifying and locating some of the major capital cities.

This week in art we will continue with the base layer of paint on our sculptures and also explore some design ideas based on the Nana sculptures by Niki de Sainte Phalle.

PE is now on FRIDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
