Term 4 Week 3

Here is an outline of your learning for term 4 week 3

Term 4 Week 3 – overview

We will have our ukulele lesson as usual on Monday morning.

Spelling and grammar – we will be working on spellings with the prefixes anti and inter.  We will also be modifying adjectives and nouns and using modifiers before determiners.

In our maths lessons we will be using the formal written method to practise multiplying 2 and 3-digit numbers. We will be introducing division of 2 and 3-digit numbers by 1-digitWe will also continue to work on fluency in times tables and this work is being set every week as homework.

In English we have begun a new unit on dilemma stories and are basing our work on the book The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry.  This is a tale based on arguments against deforestation of the Amazon Rain Forest.  We have created our key ‘character’ – a tree.  This week we will be analysing the arguments made by the animals in the story and will be focusing on correctly punctuating speech and writing our own animal arguments using correct speech punctuation.

We will be continuing with the next two chapters of The Boy Who Grew Dragons for whole class reading.

In RE we have a focus on Salvation.  We will be considering Peter’s denial of Jesus and exploring some art work to demonstrate our ideas and understanding.

Last week we began a new topic on European countries.  We have been naming the continents and learning facts about Europe.  This week we will be learning about major countries in Europe.

We have completed the second layer of papier mache on our sculptures.  They are looking fantastic already.  This week we will be beginning the base layer of paint and also exploring some design ideas based on the Nana sculptures by Niki de Sainte Phalle.

In ICT, we are looking at online safety this term and will be considering screen time!

PE is now on FRIDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.
