Term 4 Week 2

Here is an outline of your learning for term 4 week 2

Term 4 Week 2 – overview

We will have our ukulele lesson as usual on Monday morning.

Spelling and grammar – we will be working on spellings with the prefixes anti and inter.  We will also be modifying adjectives and nouns and using modifiers before determiners.

In our maths lessons we will be using the formal written  method to multiply 2 and 3-digit numbers. We will also continue to work on fluency in times tables and this work is being set every week as homework.

In English we will be completing our persuasive letters about plastics in the ocean.  This is bringing together the information we have gathered, the persuasive devices we have been mastering and the skill of structuring this type of letter.  Once completed, we will be peer editing and improving our letters before creating neat copies.  We will of course be carrying out a range of activities for World Book Day on Thursday!

We will be continuing with the next two chapters of The Boy Who Grew Dragons for whole class reading.

In RE we have a focus on Salvation.  We are recalling key events in Holy Week beginning with Palm Sunday and moving through to Good Friday.  Our key question is ‘why do Christians call the day Jesus died Good Friday?’  We will focus on Maundy Thursday, the Last Supper, Judas’s betrayal and Peter’s denial.

Last week we began a new topic on European countries.  We have been naming the continents and learning facts about Europe.  This week we will be learning how to use lines of latitude and longitude.

We began a sculpture project last week using plastics that would otherwise have been thrown away.  We have joined a range of objects and have begun covering the abstract shapes with papier mache.  We will be completing another layer of this on Friday.  It was really lovely to see the children so absorbed in this project.

PE is now on FRIDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.
