Term 2 Week 6

Here is an outline of your learning for term 2 week 6

Term 2 Week 6 – overview

Last Monday was our last ukulele lesson of the term.  We would like to thank Mr Lawrence for getting us off to an amazing start and I can’t wait to see what the children achieve in the next 2 terms!

On Friday morning we are lucky enough to be going ice-skating in Calverley Grounds.  We will be walking down with Year 2.

Spelling and grammar – We will be focusing on spellings using the suffixes ing, er, en and ed,  and also revising some of the Year 3 and 4 statutory spellings. In grammar sessions we will be identifying fronted adverbials.

In English, our work will be based on instruction texts.  We will be writing instructions for building a Roman road and thinking about the specific features of an instruction text.

In Maths we are moving onto length and perimeter.  We will be refreshing our understanding of metres and centimetres, metres and kilometres and centimetres and millimetres.

We continue to practise times tables using a range of platforms and the homework focus for this term will be gaining fluency in times tables. Please practise little and often at home!

This week we will be answering questions on the fourth chapter of the Iron Man in our guided reading sessions. We will be working on our reading fluency as well as our comprehension skills.

In RE we will be writing an explanation of the cards we designed last week to illustrate John 1’s account of the Gospel.  We also hope to interview Father John to develop our understand the concept of incarnation.

Mrs Atkinson will continue to teach Science to the class on Monday afternoon as they explore sound.

Our topic lessons will continue to be on considering the impact of the Romans on Britain.  We will think about how the Celts began to take on board a lot of the Roman ways of life and what those things were.

PE is on Monday afternoon with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.
