Term 2 Week 5

Here is an outline of your learning for term 2 week 5

Term 2 Week 5 – overview

We had a wonderful time at Maidstone Museum last week.  The children demonstrated just how much knowledge they have picked up over the last 2 terms and were impressive in their historical questioning skills.  They were able to handle some Roman artefacts which will have enriched their learning so much.  Thank you for your support in making this happen.

As usual, we will begin the week with our wonderful ukulele lesson!

Spelling and grammar – We will be focusing on spellings using ey, ei and eigh again and also revising some of the Year 3 and 4 statutory spellings. In grammar sessions we will be thinking about adverbials of time and place.

I hope you enjoyed reading the fantastic stories the children wrote and published!  Our final session will be to share them and talk about what we have learned in this writing experience.  The books will then go into our reading area, so we can all enjoy them.  We will be moving on to instruction texts, still linked to the theme of the Romans and will be learning how to use imperative verbs effectively.

In Maths we will be thinking about efficient calculation strategies and considering when they are appropriate.  We will also work on estimation which requires us to refer back to our prior learning on rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.  We will think about strategies to check answers using the inverse calculation.

We continue to practise times tables using a range of platforms and the homework focus for this term will be gaining fluency in times tables. Please practise little and often at home!

This week we will be answering questions on the third chapter of the Iron Man in our guided reading sessions.  We will be working on our reading fluency as well as our comprehension skills.

In RE we will build on our knowledge of the text of John 1 to design a Christmas card that illustrates his account of the Gospel.  The children have been extremely impressive in taking on board some very challenging concepts.

Mrs Atkinson will continue to teach Science to the class on Monday afternoon as they explore sound.

Our topic lessons will continue to consider the impact of the Romans on Britain.  Following on from Boudica’s rebellion, we will think about how the Celts began to take on board a lot of the Roman ways of life and what those innovations were.

PE is on Monday afternoon with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.
