Term 2 Week 4

Here is an outline of your learning for Term 2 Week 4

Term 2 Week 4 – overview

We are really looking forward to our Romans Worshop in Maidstone Museum on Thursday.  Please make sure you have given permission via ParentPay so your child can attend.

As usual, we will begin the week with our wonderful ukulele lesson!

Spelling and grammar – We will be focusing on spellings using ey, ei and eigh.  In grammar sessions we will be thinking about descriptive adverbials.

In English we will be editing and writing up our amazing Pompeii stories.  It has been a pleasure to have a final look over them at the weekend and the children should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.  We will be thinking about the blurb to go on the back of the books and also some ‘about the author’ information before we publish them for our class library!

In Maths we will continue working on subtraction skills.  We will be learning to subtract 2 4-digit numbers with more than one exchange, how to choose the best method for efficient subtraction and also how to check answers using inverse operations.

We continue to practise times tables using a range of platforms and the homework focus for this term will be gaining fluency in times tables. Please practise little and often at home!

This week we will be answering questions on the second chapter of the Iron Man in our guided reading sessions.  We will be working on our reading fluency as well as our comprehension skills.

Following on from Father John’s session last week we will be challenging ourselves to see what we can remember about the differences in the 4 accounts of the Gospel written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  This is very challenging and the children were amazing last week with their deeper thinking skills.

Mrs Atkinson will continue to teach Science to the class on Monday afternoon as they explore sound.

Our topic lessons will continue to be on considering the impact of the Romans on Britain.  We will be considering the impact of Boudica’s rebellion on Roman Britain.  She is a fascinating character who has helped us develop our understanding of different perspectives in history.

PE is on Monday afternoon with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.
