Term 2 Week 3

Here is an outline of our learning for term 2, week 3.

Term 2 Week 3 – overview

As usual, we will begin the week with our wonderful ukulele lesson!

Spelling and grammar - We will continue to work on spelling words with the prefixes in, im, il and ir.  In grammar sessions, we will be learning about adverbials.

In English we will continue writing our own versions of Escape from Pompeii.  The children have made an amazing start and have had 1:1 writing conferences with me to celebrate their successes and agree on their next steps.  We have also begun designing book covers, so that we can ‘publish’ our stories for the class library.

In Maths we will continue working on subtraction skills.  We have revised 3-digit subtraction with no exchange and will work up to 4-digit subtraction with more than one exchange. We continue to practise times tables using a range of platforms and the homework focus for this term will be gaining fluency in times tables. Please practise little and often at home!

This week we will be reading the second chapter of the Iron Man in our guided reading sessions.  Last week we explored some unfamiliar vocabulary and discussed the strong feelings evoked in the first chapter.   We will be working on our reading fluency as well as our comprehension skills.

In RE we will be learning about the 4 accounts of the Gospel written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  We will explore their differing accounts of the life of Jesus and link this to our big question: What is the Trinity?

Mrs Atkinson will continue to teach Science to the class on Monday afternoon as they explore sound.

Our topic lessons will continue to be on considering the impact of the Romans on Britain.  We will be focusing on the Iceni Queen, Boudicca, and historical accounts of her life.

PE is on Monday afternoon with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.
