Term 2 Week 1

Here is an overview of your learning for term 2 week 1

Term 2 Week 1 – overview

We are lucky to be joined by a second-year degree student from the University of Sussex.  I know all the children will make Miss Ahmed very welcome.

We have our class mass in church on Tuesday afternoon.

Ukulele lessons will continue with Mr Lawrence on Monday morning. What a wonderful way to start the week!

Spelling and grammar - We will be working on spelling words from the statutory year 3 and 4 list, in addition to misspellings that have been identified in the pupil’s writing.  In grammar sessions, we will be working on using pronouns.

In English we will begin planning and writing our own stories based on Escape from Pompeii.  We will initially consider our main characters and key events and put them into a story map.  We will write section 1 together to create a model text and then have a go at our own independent writing.  We have built up lots of writing ideas over the previous term that are ready to be employed!

In Maths we will be adding 2 3-digit numbers before moving on to adding 4-digit numbers and working on our problem solving and reasoning skills

We have finished our guided reading text The Magic Finger and will be moving on to The Iron Man by Ted Hughes.  It is a real contrast to our last text in terms of complexity of punctuation and sentence structure.  It is a fantastic read!

In RE will begin our unit on Incarnation which leads us up to Christmas.  We will be considering the Big Question:  What is the Trinity?

Mrs Atkinson will continue to teach Science to the class on Monday afternoon and they will begin a new topic on Sound.

Our topic lessons will continue to be on considering the impact of the Romans on Britain.

PE is on Monday afternoon with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:
