Term 1 Week 2

Here is an outline of your learning for this week.

Term 1 Week 2 - overview

We are really excited about starting ukulele lessons with Mr Lawrence on Monday morning.  The school will provide the instruments.

Spelling and grammar - We will be revising spellings from the year 3 and 4.  We will also be learning words ending with ‘sure’.   In grammar sessions, we will look at expanding sentences using conjunctions and adverbs.

Our English lessons will continue to be based on the wordless book ‘Quest’ by Aaron Becker.  We will be working towards creating colour poems which link to the theme of the book.  Initially we will be brainstorming ideas for each colour of the rainbow and we will work towards linking the colour to all the senses.   We will create ‘sense banks’, co-create a poem and then work on our own independent writing.  We will be linking our artwork to the poems to create a display for the corridor.

We will be continuing our whole class guided reading of The Magic Finger.  We will read the second section over several times together and discuss narrative and language features before completing some questions on what we have read and understood.

In Maths, we continue to work on place value.  This week we will be rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and then to the nearest hundred.  We will be working on our times tables fluency in a dedicated session using Purple Mash and Hit the Button as a platform.

In RE we will explore the text of Genesis 1 and identify key themes and repetition in the language.  We have started to build a ‘wow and ow’ board to reflect things that fill us with awe and also things that we feel less happy about.

In Science we will be considering electrical safety in the home.

We will continue to look at the geography of Europe and consider why Rome was built in its location.  We will also explore the legend of Romulus and Remus in connection to the foundation of Rome.

PE is on Monday afternoon with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.  A reminder that we would like children to read daily.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:
