Term 5 Week 5

Here is an overview of your learning in Chestnut Class for term 5, week 5

Term 5 week 5

Spelling sessions this week will focus on some common homophones, such as weather and whether. In grammar sessions we be working on using pronouns and conjunctions in paragraphs.

In whole class guided reading we are continuing with our text ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’.

Last week, we wrote the first 3 parts of our hero myths.  They were outstanding and the children’s enthusiasm was extraordinary.  This week we will be writing the final 2 parts, with part 4 being the greatest moment of tension in the story.  We will be referring to the technique called ‘tension mountain’ where we build up drama and suspense.  We have really enjoyed sharing our work with each other and will continue to do this as we write.  The next step will be to edit and improve parts of our stories before we ‘publish’ them as books to go in our reading area.

In maths, we will complete our work on equivalent fractions before moving on to fractions greater than a whole and counting in fractions.

In RE we will be thinking about the key features of Hinduism, including the belief in reincarnation and how that is represented in some of the depictions of the creation story.  We will also be thinking about how and why Hindus worship many gods that are regarded as aspects of one greater god.

Ukulele lessons are continuing.  We are so lucky to have Mr Lawrence as a teacher and I know he has been really impressed by the enthusiasm and attitude of the pupils in our class!
